Not a bad game....Not a great game either.

User Rating: 7.5 | Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects PSP
Marvel Super Heroes beating the crap out of each other should be one of the coolest and funnest things you can experience. These guys are people of mass destruction. It should be absolutely amazing to take control of one of these guys and just break the bones of your opponent. It should be an amazing experience. It SHOULD.

Unfortunately, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the imperfects is quite imperfect...HA!!! I bet nobody has thought of that before!! HOHOOO!! I'm so damn clever I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore....

Anyway...This game does a lot of things right..and a lot of things wrong. First of all the right stuff (I'm quoting the Ed Harris movie with that line..NOT...I repeat...NOT...the new kids on the block song from the 80's.) First of all, the game has some cool character designs. I mean, they're based on the comic designs...but they seem to be pushed a little darker. They look really cool. The graphics look great. The color schemes are unique. There's a nice roster of Marvel characters (including the exclusive to PSP Captain America and Dr. Doom). And the animations are really nice. All the characters seem really alive. Plus, the PSP version gives you "cards" to slot into your character to give him or her boosts. This helps a lot when your in a pickle..and as lame as the idea of cards are..it actually goes a long way to making the game a lot more fun that it would be without it.

Now for the the wrong stuff. First of all, the levels, though beautiful, can get kind of boring. They're not that big and after a while seem kind of generic...at least as far as gameplay is concerned. Which leads me to another not fun aspect...the gameplay. Yes. GAMEplay is very important to making GAMES. But somebody forgot to tell the developers that. Though, to be fair, it's not that it's terribly boring...it just isn't that great...and it could have easily been better.

And finally, what's wrong about the game is the characters that are NOT marvel related. They pretty much all suck minus a couple. Their designs aren't that great, their powers are uninspired, and it seems like a waste putting them in when we could have had a bunch of other cooler heroes from the Marvel Universe. Hell, Howard the Duck would have been a better choice than some of these guys. But somebody thought it would be a great idea to have Marvel's coolest heroes fight some crapholes that were created at an EA board meeting.

So overall, the game is pretty fun, and there are a lot of things about it that make it worth playing...especially if you like looking at pretty art...like me. But if you're looking for a fighting game that will make you stand up and do a happy dance with a happy hat in your happy apartment....then don't get this game...otherwise you run the risk of doing a sad dance with a failure hat in your depressing apartment.
