In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, you are basically playing out the Marvel Comic book series, 'Civil War', which to all you comic book fans is a major happening in the world of Marvel.

You start off before the 'Civil War', as you play as Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America and Spiderman battling it out at Castle Doom in Latveria. This first level was fantastic as it got you used to the game if you had no experience with the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, and it gave you four popular super heroes who all have different abilities. The cinematic trailer had me glued to the screen, as did the majority of the Ultimate Alliance cinematic clips in the series.

As the game slowly progresses into an argument amongst our favourite heroes, you get the opportunity to side with your preferred characters, whether it's because of the political reasons behind it, how your preferred hero plays on the game, or simply because they're the coolest. You choose between the two main camps which is basically Captain America Vs. Iron Man for those of you not familiar with the 'Civil War' series.

The gameplay itself is pretty repetitive, but the whole 'What's coming next' feeling keeps you playing for hours and hours without pausing. A big part of the game is unlocking things such as super heroes, costumes and powers, whilst you are always picking up different icons and medals.

The game could have been longer, which I feel is important in a game; especially a game you are enjoying. The difficulty is just right, as you are constantly challenged, but in a way were you are likely to succeed 9/10 times. I have spent time completing the game several times on different difficulties, as well as mixing up the playable characters and changing sides in the 'Civil War'. The three hardest characters to unlock (Hulk, Thor and Jean Grey) are well worth the wait, whether you unlock them by picking up collectibles or by using cheat codes.

Overall the game is great, more the so if you are a fan of super heroes, comic books or just beating up bad guys with a gang of crime fighting hard knocks. The reasons why I havn't give this game higher than an 8/10 is because the story mode could be longer, there could be more playable characters, and there should be more decision you make that will affect the story. As a Marvel fan, I am happy with the outcome of the game and should hope they make a third game in the series.

8/10.
