Marvel fans will LOVE this game while Non-fans will think its just ok. Although a button masher at heart, its a blast!

User Rating: 8 | Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 PS3
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is a step up from the first one and you can tell it every way. A lot of things have been improved and complaints can be categorized as mostly wanting more of what makes the game great already. Marvel fans will safely buy this game and get their money's worth while non-fans will still want to rent this only if they enjoyed the first one.

Pro's: Multiple character choices, good story, 4 player co-op online or off.

Con's: Camera can be a pain with multiple people playing, lack of alternative costumes.

Story: Takes place in the Marvel Civil War between super hero's and villains due to a government intervention requiring all those with powers to register their secret identities. Its actually very solid and interesting. Since you can play two different sides by choosing your alliance, its good to see separate sides of the same story and its done very well.

Game play: Its a button masher and offers almost the exact same type of gameplay in the first UA. Few and repetitive combos, you can pick up objects and throw them and use your powers. The cool part are the fusions that look really polished are and fun to pull off alone or with a partner.

AI: Not too great. Even on its highest difficulty setting, it often takes little more than powers or a couple fusions to take down bosses. The grunts you beat through the game will fight back, but not too aggressively that the game will feel hard. Your bots/buddies that fight with you let you do 90% of all the work. Although you have a group of 4, YOU will be doing ALL the work.

Graphics: Nice. Not awesome, not bad, but definatley better than the first game. Details are done well, costumes stand out and are polished. Explosions look good and the maps look different and pop to the eye. Its not awesome because you often look down at your character from a distance so that everyone can play on the map, meaning things are small.

Multiplayer: You can play BOTH online or on the consol w/out splitscreen. So 4 people in your house will give you the exact same experience if you get 4 people online, or play with 3 AI bots.

Special: What makes this game great are the amount of characters to choose from. All the different looks and powers keep the game from being repetitive and boring. There are a lot of sound clips that give a huge addition to the story that would surprise a lot of hardcore Marvel fans, every character has their own conversation content, challenges, unlocks, and even a trivia game. These extras really do a good job at keeping the game from being too repetative.
