Old-school 2D fighting at it's best, now on PSN and XBLA!

User Rating: 8 | Marvel vs. Capcom 2 PS3
What can I say about this game that hasn't been said already. It's a fantastic fighting game crossover between two fantastic organizations with a legion of fantastic characters. How can anyone not like this game? Well, if you want me to knit-pick, I might be able to find a few things to make fun of. Let's get started.

Story: Two dimensions have crossed over to kick the ass of one big boss guy with 3 forms. That's it.

Design: The first thing to talk about is the first thing you hear before starting the game. The god damn character select music. ThisProProxy-Connection: keep-alive

ong is so annoying and repetitive that I either mute the TV or select my characters as quickly as possible. Once you hear it, the song will stay with you FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAYS! Now onto the sprites. The use of sprites in a 3D age really makes you feel like you're playing a classic gem. Don't get me wrong, Capcom's MT Framework graphics engine will definitely work well for MvC3, but the old sprites thing still works really well. Well, at least with 3D games you don't have people ripping the sprites and using them for animations (which require a similar amount of time and effort as creating a game.). Now for the backgrounds. The backgrounds within the game usually seem to go unnoticed, but they all look really good, and this game was made in 1999! Even today the backgrounds look good. Even today the gameplay is still good. The soundtrack (aside from the character select theme) is well done, though I don't understand how jazz music fits into brutal combat... I especially like the music in the circus area.

Gameplay: This game is just straight up FUN! Kicking the crap out of Marvel and Capcom characters with super combos and TEAM SUPER COMBOS! I kid you not, you can combine the strength of all three of your selected characters to beat the everlasting crap out of your enemies. Here are my teams: Team 1: Ruby Heart, Hayato, Cable. Team Super Combo: Electron Cannon
Team 2: Akuma, Gambit, Jin. Team Super Combo: Messatsu Shinryuken (Destructive God Dragon Fist)
Team 3: Ken, Silver Samurai, Anakaris. Team Super Combo: Rising Desert Spiral
I leave it to you to figure out which assist types I used. That's one of the most fun things about this game, making different combinations of characters to find out which team suits you. If you make a team of Cable, Juggernaut, and Sentinel, you are a cheap bastard. There is some issues with character balancing. Iceman is the prime example. He literally takes no chip damage, and yet he's the king of chip damage! This guy is the only character that people want to see removed. Because he's so CHEAP! Just keep firing the ice beam, you'll win. Douche. The online component, I haven't really tried it yet. I don't care for it in fighting games. Mostly because I often do badly in that case. I might try it in Blazblue after I bring my 1337 skills back up. If only Guilty Gear X2 was online...

I will conclude this review by making a character suggestion and talking about how awesome the next game is going to be. Albert Wesker deserves to be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Not only is he the main bad guy of one of Capcom's flagship franchises, but he's got two customized guns (The Samurai Edge from RE5 and the Silver Ghost from RE4 and Umbrella Chronicles.) and freaking super powers! Chris Redfield gets a lot of guns in this game, well Wesker should get some guns and super speed and teleportation. Maybe even his mutant form from RE5. Here's my team for MvC3: Dante (Yes, he has been confirmed.), Deadpool (Confirmed), and Albert Wesker (Not yet Confirmed.) I can think of a lot of characters that should be in this game, Haggar, Arthur from Ghosts n' Goblins, Daredevil, Carnage, and hell, Dr. Wily. There are so many possibilities and variables for characters in this game! Who do YOU want to see in this game?
