Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a game unrivaled by any 2D fighter. Marvel and Capcom worked together for a while, since "X-Men vs. Street Fighter" to "Marvel vs. Street Fighter" to "Marvel vs. Capcom" and then this. The sheer character count is incredible, and sure, there is no online mode, which lowers the value, but having a group of friends and playing them can be satisfying enough. When I look at where the franchise is going, into SNK's hands, it's saddening because SNK's fighting system is complete and utter **** but Capcom's was quick and easy to understand and filled with dozens of interesting move sets and characters. I love the triple special attacks that were added as well. Even after 2 or 3 years, this is still the best of the 2D fighting crossover games ever made.
