Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a strongly competitive multiplayer game.
Online mode has ranked match, player match, search lobby, create lobby, event, and leatherboards. A ranked match is compete your rank against other opponents around the world. Player match is like ranked match, but it doesn't affect your rankings. Instead you just fight around for fun. Search lobby is where all the players are gathering at. In create lobby, you can set up battles against random people. Event mode is basically similar to mission mode. Last, leatherboards are where you can see your friends and players' status ranks.
The rest of the modes consist of gallery and options mode. In gallery mode, you can watch videos, read character bios, see character endings, view through model viewer (where you can view through character models, view the artwork, and listen to sounds. Last but not least, options mode gives you an opportunity to view the controls of each move, use operation mode, HUD position (where you can adjust the screen settings), listen to sounds, character models, and check through system settings.
Graphics - The graphics may be slightly cartoony, but the texture models are bright and vivid. Generally, the animation is smooth and doesn't cause any slowdowns. However, the game slows down occasionally when you play online mode. That problem hasn't occurred in offline mode yet.
Sound - Generally, the music does sound like super hero theme music, and it fits for this type of game. At the beginning and end of each battle, you'll hear the characters speak for a few seconds. The voice acting is well done overall, and the dialogue is humorous sometimes.
Game play - The controls are very accurate and responsive. It does take a while to get used to using the character's special moves because I haven't quite mastered it yet. Overall, I haven't experienced any significant problems with the controls.
Lasting appeal - If you enjoy playing street fighter type games, then this game is for you. The online mode has up to eight players, but the local play is only up to two players. It has a variety of modes that will suck you in, but the lack of and story and story mode dreads this game down a notch.
The Good - a variety of modes to select, online mode is very competitive, the music, graphics, and game play stand out
The Bad - offline mode only has one and two player modes, a lack of story value and story modes, online mode slows down occasionally
