This game is a great squeal that will appeal to both RPG fans and shooter fans alike.

User Rating: 9.5 | Mass Effect 2 PC
I played Mass Effect about a year ago and loved it. It was a really gripping RPG with a really interesting plot. I got Mass Effect 2 and I was not disappointed. The mechanics of the game have been cleaned up and streamlined so graphics are better as well as performance. The plot of Mass Effect 2 is a continuation of the story from Mass Effect 1 and involves a good amount of darker themes and is a bit heavy on the question "does the end justify the means?"

I really can't complain about the game very much, it is a really fun game that will have you playing on and shaping a character for 30+ hours. The worst part of the game is mining for resources on planets. (The normal inventory has been removed and now you research upgrades that requires you to mine planets for their resources.) This gets really old and tedious really fast, but that is really the only major complaint about the game.

Bottom Line: Mass Effect 2 is a very compelling and fun game that will cater to both RPG fans and shooter fans alike.

Mass Effect 2 can be played as a stand-alone game, but to really experience it and understand the background lore you need to buy and play the first game. By playing ME 1 you will be able to import your character into ME 2 as well as your looks and all of your decisions, making ME 2 more personalized. (Also it wouldn't hurt to read the books either to better understand the lore of the Mass Effect universe.)

One final thing: EA seemed to ease up this time on the DRM, you get unlimited installs and online activation is not necessary to actually play the game, only to access bonus online content. (However you will still need to keep the disk in the computer while playing.)
