Mass Effect's Gameplay Has Captured Me, But Not the Game Itself

When I started this game, I was excited by its gameplay above all things. I loved the Gears of War-esque third-person shooter style that this game presented. But as I delved deeper into the game, I found the story to be a little bland. A pandemic and locust like creatures taking over the world and ending mankind was too cliche for my tastes. In addition to that, the side-quest system was a huge time suck that turned me off from quests that weren't the main quest or the loyalty missions. I had to travel through loading screen after loading screen to get to a planet and talk to one woman, just to find out she wants me to sit through another 5 loading screens. I enjoyed Dragon Age and thought, if anyone can make me like a sci-fi shooter, it would be BioWare, and for a second I did. But only for a second.
