The arrival of a game almost 5 years in the making, ending the trilogy in a blaze of action, style and beauty.

Not a day went by since the announcement at Spike in 2010 that Mass Effect 3 was on its way that I did not stop thinking about it. And now that it's here, I do not know what to say. All I know is that if the idea that video games are a form of art, Mass Effect 3 should be one of the pillars supporting that great notion.

Filled with magnificent set pieces, a beautifully composed musical score, brilliant voice acting and some of the finest Sci-Fi video game writing of this generation, I am more than content to have my first review be this game. It stands out as not only a contender for Game of the Year, but an outstanding statement to the rest of the world that video games can be a truly enlightening and heartwarming experience that anyone can enjoy - if they give it a chance.

Some have labelled the polarising endings of Mass Effect 3 as a blight on the series that needs to be amended. I personally found the endings to be satisfying, if similar. They were not the endings I had imagined would have taken place, nor did I find them the best endings a video game saga has had - but I was content with the endings, finding that the adventures I had experienced in Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 outweighed any possible disappointment I may have had regarding the conclusion. From the immersive conversation with Sovereign in Mass Effect 1, to the startling discovery that the Collector's were actually re-purposed Protheans in Mass Effect 2, all the way to carefully structured conclusions of Mass Effect 3, I enjoyed every moment in this trilogy.

Petty criticisms on minor aspects of the story are nothing compared absolute wonder and bewilderment of such a spectacular and creative endeavour, and leave me with no regrets about the 5 year wait for this series to complete, it's story to unravel, and its adventure to enthrall.

BioWare had promised greatness, and they delivered in Mass Effect 3.
