A powerful game that would fully interest you.
At the start of this game, you will have to create your choice of a male or a female character. You can change their facial expressions, their body curves, and so on. Then, you will have to choose the character type which is the soldier, engineer, mage and so on. The character type you choose will affect the course of the whole game as there are different abilities to use. For example, if you choose a soldier, you can regenerate health anytime but if you choose a mage, you can't. So you will have to choose wisely. Then you will have to choose your background type which has only 3 options. I chose human as it is weird not to be a human.
Most of the planets are really boring to explore but not the cities in which you undergo the main missions. The boring planets have only rocks and mountains and flat lands. But there are items to collect throughout the galaxy and you will have to search for these items throughout the planets. However, there are cities such as the citadel that are beautiful looking and worth exploring. The Citadel has detailed environments and has interesting places to explore such as the pub and the fountain areas. There are many unique looking characters in the game ranging from robots to aliens to humans. They are detailed and you can see the facial expressions as they talk. But not all of them can be interacted with. And speaking on interaction, you can have a conversation with certain characters that are important to the story missions or side-quests or just having fun and knowing more about them. The outcome of the conversation is decided by you, not the character. If you talk nicely, they will talk nicely. If you are having negotiations and you choose the peaceful path, they will agree. But if you choose the War path, you will have a war with them and you have no choice but to kill them. This may affect the outcome of your missions. Conversations are lengthy and you have to choose between a list of sentences to reply.
You will be upgrading your created character throughout the course of the game. There are skills to use on different abilities such as improving Charm, intimidation or your attack and defense areas. So you will spend a good load of time in improving your skills. You can also but equipment such as weapons and armor to boost your character. More powerful armor and weapons are need for the later part of the game where the difficulty shoots up and you will install upgrades to your weapons to boost them. There are many upgrades to choose so choose them wisely. Grenades can also be upgraded. You can only hold up to four weapons. And same goes for your two allies. You can choose the weapons you want them to equip. Its wise that each hold a different weapon to maximize effectiveness in combat. You will have 6 allies to choose from and only 2 allies can be selected for each mission. You will also be upgrading your allies' skills and they will get stronger after each upgrade.
Combat is the weakest point in this game. It's not similar to the other 3rd person shooters you play. The combat actually feels weird. Gun sounds are clunky. You have unlimited ammo but your weapon can get over-heated. Gun models are not so nice to see. There are also not many varieties to the gun types. You won't be seeing the AK-47s, M-16 or the Rocket Launcher. Instead, the main 4 weapons are the assault rifle, sniper rifle, shot-guns and Pistols. You can upgrade these guns. However, the assault rifle is my favorite type and i only used that weapon for the most part of the game. The other weapons are not so effective. Boss battles in this game are interesting but not challenging enough, except for the last boss battle in this game. You will have to constantly shift between weapons to take the boss down.
Graphics in this game are top-notched and the visuals are brilliant. The character voices are original and the characters' movements feel fluid. The music in the game follows the action pace. The only complaint in this game is the weak combat. There are no bugs and glitches in the game except in some instances where dead enemies' weapons hang in mid-air.
Overall, this game is a solid game and should be experienced by everybody. I definitely look forward to the next two games as there is a planned trilogy in the mass effect series. There are so much more to writ about this game but it will take many hours. By right, you should play the game and experience everything yourself. And be warned: This game is clearly not for kids as there is a steamy sex scene in this game. So parents, you have been warned.
