I finally got around to renting and playing this game. It did not dissapoint as a rental. I of course knew in advance that it was short and consequently leased it's charms as opposed to buying. I suggest you do the same. I am an above average action/shooter player, but not expert and I still finished this game in an evening. If you played the first Max Payne, you are in for more of the same... well more except in terms of game play time which is the same if not shorter than the first. Please don't get me wrong, this wasn't all that much shorter than Chronicles of Riddick which I also finished this past week, it's just that the Max Payne story isn't quite up to Riddick's standards. That said, this game is just plain fun. Runnin', gunnin', bullet timin' fun. I think the graphics are quite nice even after just spending 11 hours with Riddick. I really like the overall detail, though the textures of warehouse after warehouse began to wear on me toward the end. Time for more variety for the interiors of buildings. Character models were great, but I definitely missed the truer rag-doll physics from Riddick. Being able to set down a body on the edge of a ledge and watch it slide off was cool and having the same body just lie there stiff as a board with over half the body hanging out in space was a let down. (Sorry for the ongoing comparison here, didn't start out with that in mind. Just riding the thought-stream.) The sound was fine, but nothing special and the voice-acting is the same pseudo-noir-wannabe fare as from the first game. Music was... was... was there any music? I guess so, but it obviously left no impression on me pro or con. At least it didn't get in the way, but I'm sure not hummin' it 'round the house. Value. At $5.99 for the rental, it was a deal. At the original purchase price of $50... YIKES! Looks like you could pick it up on ebay used for about $15, which if you're a real fan of the series or really like the "New York Minute" and other play modes after completing the game, might be worth your while. I've got to rate this down around a 5 though based on initial purchase price. A game this short with no online component can't possibly be worth $50... ever! All that said, I still had fun with the game and am glad I rented it.
