Sequel to the highly acclaimed, but sadly lacking Mechassault. Does Mechassault II cut it?

Mechassault 2 moves on very closely from the sequel, keeping all the main gameplay mechanics that the first one had, without changing much. You play, mainly as a pilot in enormous 'Mechs', futuristic armoured tanks; which mainly blow chunks out each other.

The game is very fun. It offers up a huge number of mechs in its 8 hour campaign mode, all of which are varied and different from one another, with many different features.

Whilst the campaign mode is fun, it's in the multiplayer that this game comes into its own.

The maps are generally huge, all with there own mechs and VTOLs for you to pilot. There are great strategical points to take over on each map. Xbox Live is where it's at: With loads of game types all with different mechs, and great startegies available to discuss. For example, often you will have a pilot in the VTOL providing the mechs with health, ammo and power ups; however, on some maps, the landing point is central, so it is a fight to the death in trying to snatch up control of it.

The game isn't anything outrageously special. It boasts a vast amount of options for multiplayer, whilst missing a lot in the single player modes: The cheesy voice-overs don't help either. The graphics could be better, but some of the effects are very nice.

When it comes down to it, this game is all about Xbox Live, if you don't have the service I suggest you rent it before you buy.
