European Assault has alot of drawbacks, however, it's most disappointing aspect is it's length.
Gameplay - 4/10: The gameplay has alot of errors, the biggest being the fact that its hard, even on the easiest difficulty, the game is hard to beat, which can make it very frustrating. You will at some points, literally have to waste all your ample supply of Medipacks and Revives because there are just too many baddies just to hard to kill. You'll never have a chance to open-fire on 10 Nazis without dying. Second, being as the leader of your five-man squad, you must take care of your four buddies and keep them safe as well as you can throughout the level. This doesn't sound like a bad thing, however, when you start playing, you realise why it isn't great. The first part of this is that you have to make sure your comrades' health are kept safe, and if they do get low; which will happen, considering they don't know how to use cover, then you must give them a medikit. Now the problem comes when trying to give them, everytime you attempt to get close to him to help him, he begins running away from you, and in fact, you must stay at quite a distance to throw that medipack on him. But sometimes he comes when you don't want to, like when you want to switch a weapon, and he comes in front of you and instead of pressing X to pick up the weapon, you press it to heal him. However, letting them die doesn't have bad consequences, but you may miss an oppurtunity to get free Revives and Medikits.
Another backdrop in its gameplay is that, its repetitive, always the same objectives, destroy the panzers, kill the high official and blow up stuff. Although these are stuff you'd expect from a game like this, the frustrating part of this is that you have to explore around to find these objectives, which isn't bad, considering it will expand your play time, but exploring every bit of the area just to find, at most, 6 secondary objectives, just to recieve a gold medal is tiring, and most of all frustrating.
Above all that, the rest of the game is the same you'd see in other WW2 games, missing some of the best parts of them however.
Graphics - 6/10:
Plain and simple, graphics suck, and above that the framerate is balancing on a pencil, failing to stay steady when too much action is foing on. Graphics are nothing special and nothing good either. They could've at least worked harder on them since the game itself is all so short. But no, its got plain repetitive textures, bad characters and ugly fires and explosions.
Sound - 8/10:
Now this one part gets a great rating for one reason, its music. Although nothing different or even better than other WW2 orchestral songs, they're still great, and Holt narrating in the cutscenes also sounds awesome, the voice acting and music make it match a WW2 movie. However, 2 points go for the repetitive sound effects. Value - 4/10:
You will finish it in 6 hours only, and there's nothing to further replay it, even to get the missing medals, because its all so frustrating to play a 30 minute level again. And considering this isn't a budget title, it is at all not worth any money. Conclusion - EA screwed European Assault so bad, you can't get anything more out of it. Call of Duty wees all over this.
