How great was this game?

User Rating: 9.5 | Medal of Honor Frontline XBOX
very great is my answer. ahhh, MOH Frontline was one heck of a game for its day. dutch towns, alleyways, factories, railways, city squares, countryside - all were interesting to explore. nowadays, this seems absolutely a snail's pace, but what a great, immersive game for 2002. little side adventures you have to discover like sabotaging german staff cars really added to the game. no need to hurry - take your time and enjoy the scenery. and hey, here's something - civilians! albeit just a handful of emotionless ones, but still, at least they were there. often wondered why so few in WW2 games. and man, when the bad guys were threatening that old dutch man in the street... well, it was time to snipe some justice. no thanks though, he just scuttled away. i love COD WAW, but you never really feel that you can stop and explore the cool world, you're so busy trying to push ahead and survive waves of enemy soldiers. you feel like you're being swept through.

the Good:
- great scenery and offbeat selections of historical WW2 locales
- the intrigue aspect so many games are missing. there are time when stealth is the only way to survive. the resistance elements of the story were real nice too.
- cozy. don't know why, but cozy.
- more of an innocent adventure than my current, bloody faves
- awesome music. haunting, appropriate and memorable.

and only a a few Cons:
- weapons are weak, but that was par for the course in 2002.
- you find yourself retracing your steps and wandering the same streets and alleys to figure out what it is you missed and need to do to complete some stages.
- pokey pace.
- a bit sparse in the people department.

damn, writing this just makes me all gushy. think i'll give this oldie a spin this weekend. ya know EA? you've made some pretty cool games.
