User Rating: 6.5 | Medal of Honor: Vanguard PS2
WW2 games have been around for a long time, and franchises like call of duty and battlefield have all moved to modern combat. Medal of honor games have been arguably some of the best ww2 games, but over the years, they have grown old. Medal of honor vanguard seems like an expansion liike guitar hero: encore than a full sequel. The graphics are pretty much the same as MOH european assault, which isnt a bad thing, but those graphics are from 2005. Some improved lighting, explosion effects, and improved character models have been added, but aside from that, you cant distinguish the two versions. The major problem in vanguard is the game design. The missions are ok, but there is nothing special about being able to choose where you land, and it doesnt really matter anyway. And since, they emphasize realism, there are only 5 or 6 different weapons in the game, and most of them appear in the multiplayer mode. The battlegrounds are also not varied and pretty much urban combat that takes place in locations that arent interesting. The multiplayer is also a letdown. Instead of having to find the locations where the boxes are to switch weapons and upgrade them, the boxes only replemish your ammo and there are only 3 floating weapons in the very tiny map. Players also respawn in the same place every time. One of the memorable modes, capture the flag is also ruined. It is common sense, and has been done in countless fps that you go to the enemy base, steal the flag, carry it to your base while protecting your own flag. In vanguard, instead of that, all players go after the same flag and take it to a "checkpoint" a couple feet away. How f**ked up is that? Overall, this game is alright in the single player sense, but is extremely short and the multiplayer isnt even worth playing. The only thing that is good is the sound of the battlefield but all MOHs have been good with that.
