Medal Of Honor does the bare minimum, but unfortunately, not much more.

Medal Of Honor has been on discharge for about 3 years now. Ever since MOH: Frontline, the MOH series never seemed to make the gaming press happy for some reason (even though most of the MOH games are good). After watching the success of DICE's BFBC:2 and watching it go toe-to-toe with rival shooter Modern Warfare 2, EA decided to bring Medal of Honor back into the fight. I was stoked for it, and while it was a great concept, the game could've been a helluva lot better, honestly.

Like its rival Call Of Duty, Medal Of Honor leaves the WWII theater to tackle the modern warfare setting. It takes place during the war in Afghanistan, as you play the part of the relatively unknown Tier 1 operators. Alot of emphasis was placed on the use of Tier 1 and realism. While Medal of Honor nails the realism as far as the Tier 1 operators are concerned (meaning features like character dialouge are well done), the game itself isn't very realistic. The campaign is 100% linear, there's invisible walls that keep you on a set path, enemy placement feels scripted, the enemy A.I. at times can be retarded and there's more moments of cliche than awe. The campiagn is great.... if it were 1999. While it is good, that's about it. Nothing more. It doesn't do anything groundbreaking or add any new feature -- save for the Tier 1 mode, which is about the only good new feature. Medal of Honor tries to make the campaign as realistic as possible with the story, but the campaign itself can be uninteresting. Why? Because you've played campaigns like this before, like in Modern Warfare and even Bad Company 2. With the technology and creativity that EA LA has, it could've done a much better job. But, in a way, they kind of did a half-ass job.

If your expecting the multiplayer to be as groundbreaking as Bad Company 2 was, you'll probably end up dissapointed. Like the campaign, the multiplayer is good.... but that's about it. There really isn't anything different about this multiplayer that you haven't played before, which again, is a shame.

Don't get wrong, you might be thinking "well damn just give this game a 5 and say it sucks!", Medal of honor is a great game, but in all honesty, with all the games before it, this game had a lot of potential to live up to, and it didn't live up to very much of it. Its a half ass game, which is a damn shame, because EA LA and DICE have made great games before, and they couldn't make this one even better than any of those and evenbetter than Modern Warfare 2? I'm at a loss for words. I'm going hard on this game because there was so much hype and potential for this game to be fantastic, and it isn't. Its good, but not fantastic. It would be easier to look at what this game does right than what it doesn't, but for this game, the flaws outweigh the strengths quite a bit. Medal Of Honor does the bare minimum, but unfortunately, not much more.
