Medal Of Honor

I will admit to being more than a little sceptical about Medal Of Honor, having gone through the initial period leading up to the beta testing of really looking forward to the game, but then my interest rapidly cooling once I read some of things those eligible to test the beta of the on-line portion of the game had been posting about it, and all the short-comings the game seemingly had as well as the bugs, glitches etc they highlighted.

However I curiosity got the better of me, I watched a few video's of the gamplay after release, and was not at all surprised to find that I still quite like the look of it so purchased the game.

While there is being much written about the pro's and cons of the game, some overly critical or overly gushing about the games achievments, it does sadly (for those that were hoping of so much more from Medal Of Honor) fill that middle ground of not being as good as expected but, for those willing to look past it's short-comings, offer a game that people will still find enjoyable and addictive to play.

Campaign:

The single player campaign mode I have to admit, I found to be a blast, taking the real life Battle of Takur Ghar([...]) as the inspiration for the story arc you encounter (from the different perspectives of those involved), and also giving just ample variety to keep you gripped to your seat.

Although admittedly there are one or two problems with the single player Campaign, it is still a reall great game to play through giving you a insight into not just modern warfare and how it is waged/won/lost, but also the camaraderie and friendship the team of soldiers build up (and their sometimes morbid humor given the situations they encounter).

There are only two things in my opinion I found wrong with the campaign, one, a minor issue, is that i would have liked it to have been a little longer. That being said maybe taking into account the Tier 1 gameplay and on-line Multi-player, to expect more is being presumptuous.

The other more major problem is the difficulty level, I consider myself not to be either that skilled or that good playing this type of game, but did manage to complete the hardest game difficulty with relative ease, which just simply should not happen and I believe is a shame as it deprives the real hardcore gamer the opportunity to test their ability.

Overall though I would say Campaign is the highlight of the game, and hopefully should there be a Medal Of Honor II in the works/planned, they will continue the way they have started.

Tier 1:
I have found Tier 1 to be difficult, overly so, although I think this is on account of my own lack of skill rather than the actual game, that being said though it is a nice little addition to the game, against the clock, and with no re-spawn, you have to fight your way through the level to the end.

While this may not be my cup of tea, I can see this being a addictive feature for many people, it offers a fair challenge where speed and accuracy are a must, and also where you will find (if you've played through a couple of times) you will be competing against friends to post the fastest time.

As i say I have not played or enjoyed this much, thus far, however I think this is a great part of Medal Of Honor, and something that really does add to the game.

On-line Multi-player:

I have struggled to play multi-player, but will get their eventually just it may take longer than anticipated.

People mention many negative points and aspects about multi-player, and i will not deny that most of them are valid points that need to be fixed via a future patch, but if you look past these problems there is still a solid multi-player game there, and while it may not have the on-line numbers of other similar, and frequently compared to, games, I think this may actually work to the advantage of the Medal Of Honor on-line community as it should cut out some of the nonsense associated with certain on-line communities.

The main problem with the maps in all honesty is that sometimes it is too easy to be spawn killed multiple times, which does cause a lot of aggravation for those who it happening to, which is understandable, should future maps be released maybe they could consider a larger map area where the starting areas are too distant for in-game rifles to reach.

Summary:

While Medal Of Honor may have failed to live up to expectations for many people, it is still, for a game that is (suprisingly) making it's debut on this generation of consoles, and so will always be nervously finding a foothold in a very competitive gaming market, and it is, to that end not a bad start for hopefully a continuation of this franchise.

And while many will, naturally, compare it the Call Of Duty franchise, the consideration must be that it too had to debut and has since evolved, medal Of Honor has taken it's first steps, lets hope that by Medal Of Honor II it begins to run.
