The Mega Man that defined the series.

User Rating: 10 | Rockman 2: Dr. Wily no Nazo NES
Mega Man 2 was the first Mega Man I played. Little did I know how much of an impact this game would have on me or video games as a whole. I really didn’t know much about the Mega Man series at the time. I remember reading about the first Mega Man in a game guide, but that was about it. A friend brought over Mega Man 2 and said how cool it was. I remember popping it in my NES and picking Flash man as my first adversary. The music on his stage was what would cause me to be obsessed with the series for years to come.

Mega Man 2 is a much more polished game than the original in all aspects. The graphics are cleaner and brighter. They are also more detailed, bringing the stages to life. The music in the original Mega Man was good, but in Mega Man 2 it is excellent. I am still impressed with the quality of the music to this day. As I mentioned earlier, Flash man’s level has some of the best music in the game. There really isn’t a stage where the music is lame or boring. The game play is much more refined than the original. Mega Man seems to move more fluidly and is easier to control. The stages are also designed better making them more fun and less frustrating to play. There is also eight Robot Masters instead of six from the original, making it a longer game. A password feature is introduced, so you don’t have to play in one sitting. Mega Man is a little difficult, but not to the degree of frustration. It provides the right mixture of fun and challenge.

Mega Man 2 may be the second in the series, but it was the one that defined the series. All other Mega Mans, for the NES at least, are patterned more after Mega Man 2 than any other Mega Man. When people think of Mega Man from the Nintendo days, Mega Man 2 is the one that most will remember. This is not surprising since this is one of the best games out there.
