User Rating: 8.9 | Mega Man Anniversary Collection PS2
Im no Megaman fan.... maybe a little bit. But I really hate where capcom is taking the series with X series. We got up to Megaman X5, everything was fine then they released X6 which wasnt to good. Then X7 came out, that is the most insulting megaman game that ever came out. These Megaman games really show me that even the most basic of gameplay is still fun. Gameplay: Running around shooting stuff in 2d. You collect boss weapons when you defeat them, robots are alergic to certaion weapons. Kill bubbleman, then go after fireman with bubble blast. The 2 arcade games included (Need to be unlocked first) are very basic, especially the first one, there the only 2 player thing on this disc. Also you have to make jumps that look like you wont make it, but you will... sometimes. Megaman 7 is my favorite on this disc, i dont know why, its just fun. The Gamecube version has the worst controls ever, playing on the ps2 it felt like playing my old snes again. Navi mode is a useful little tid bit, it tells you the safest path to go, it also gives you hints on how to beat stuff. Also they made some substantiol changes to everything, from the controls, to some edited content, and they did some strange things like remove the full ending in MegaMan7. Megaman8 is a port of the Playstation version, unfortuneatly it doesnt contain some of the unlockables the saturn version had. Graphics: The game, has aged well... exceptionally well. Probably one of the reasons Megaman went mainstream and was so popular, was the fact that the backgrounds look awesome. Also if your a purist, turn off navi mode, The NES flicker will be there if you do. Also the health, ammo, and boss bars have been changed, again if your a hardcore purist, turn off navi mode to turn the stuff back. Megaman 8 looks the best, it also has some anime cutscenes. Sound: Sound is a whole different manner. if you hate 8 bit music, Get the ps2 version, because with navi mode for the ps2 you get to listen to remixed tracks for each level. Though Megaman5 i think has some pretty bad tinny/scratchy sound problems. Again for purist's, turn off navi mode. Value: This game has a ton of value, from the basic arcade game's(boring, but with a friend, its great) it also contains some remixed tracks for protoman and megaman's theme. For the ps2 version, you can unlock an anime episode. For GC version, you can unlock developer interviews. Also some concept art, 30 images if i remember. In the end, this is the greatest collection pack ever invented. Anyone interested in megaman, or just want to play the old megaman games. Should defintely pick this one up.
