These games are NOT for those without quick thinking, reflexes and timing...and we wouldn't have 'em any other way...

User Rating: 9.5 | Mega Man Anniversary Collection PS2
Mega Man Anniversary Collection holds some of gaming greatest treasures in one neatly wrapped package that's clearly intended for the fans of the games that came out way back when. The gameplay is still your tried and true vintage Mega Man formula, where you're constantly running and gunning, doing a bit of platform hopping on the side, all to get to a boss, obliterate him, and take his weapon. This time around, though, if the games didn't test you enough back then and still don't now, they can, because they've taken it upon themselves to add a hard mode in the game, which will take EVERY OUNCE of your reflexes to overcome. There are plenty of extras to unlock as well, like the first episode of the classic anime series, new tracks that were custom made for this game, an image gallery, and above all else, the two games which were never released, the "Power Battle" games. Years and years have passed since the release of these great games, but as the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The graphics in most of the games aren't great by today's standards, but they weren't intended to be, either. Every object and every stage is back in its original 2-D, 8-bit form, and the fans probably would explode if they weren't...I wouldn't blame them, either...Others, like Mega Man 8, still look good by today's standards, however, a feat in and of itself to say the least. As far as sound goes, for the most part, the game retains the old sound effects from the games of yesteryear, while mixing in some new music done for the occasion, but you can get back the classic music from the stages by turning off the navi system. You might wanna mute your TV or something, though, when it comes to one of Mega Man 8's cutscenes.... All in all, if you've always enjoyed the Mega Man games this will not disappoint you whatsoever, I assure you. I don't recommend renting this, because there's a huge possibility of you enjoying it and not wanting to take it back until you've finished every game.
