When I first played Wily’s Revenge, I was a lot younger and inexperienced. Thus, I didn’t get anywhere when I played it. To my surprise, when I picked it up years later, not much had changed. The game is basically a rehash of some of some Mega Man games; he must battle four of his old rivals in whatever order he chooses. After he defeats all four of them he must face up against the crazed Dr. Wily in the final battle. But you probably won’t get that far. The game really does make it as a Mega Man game; there are no generic elements in it. But its major flaw is in its difficulty. As a game with essentially only five levels, it must be more difficult than a normal game. But in doing so, they’ve made the game so difficult that you might just be wasting your time playing it. Unless you’re a die-hard Mega Man fan (or maybe even if you are), this game will make you agitated and angry as you try desperately not to die avoiding the games many difficult challenges. While for a while I managed to get some sort of pattern down for some of the game’s levels (like Iceman’s level; I could get past the very beginning without sustaining any damage) after I had gotten far enough into the levels, the game became so difficult I about tore all my hair out. The game is honestly not one you pick up and play when you’re in the mood; you have to be ready and aware on all counts. This is highlighted by the graphics, which blur when you move forward or back on the screen. This makes it very difficult to know where you’re about to land, unless it’s absolutely obvious. But it looks like a Mega Man game when you’re standing still, so at least you’ll recognize it then. But I’ll admit that I fully enjoy the music in the game, in every level. I don’t know if the music is identical to the original Mega Man games from which the enemies come from, but even if it is the music is still really good, even for a Game Boy game. If you’re a fan of old-school Nintendo music, this game’s music won’t disappoint you. But music unfortunately does not make a game, especially this one. If you manage to beat it you will definitely feel satisfied, but you probably won’t play it again. It’s such a stressful game you’ll just put it away and be glad you’re done with it. But the game is so short you might not get as much satisfaction out of it as you would from, say, a longer game. But for those of you who can’t make much progress in it, if any, this game will just frustrate you until you till the end of your rope. It makes me wish GameSpot had a Classification of "Too Difficult."
