Still 2D Mega Man, with a Graphical Facelift.
Mega Man fanboys have all declared the normal mode of this game to be “easy”. To other gamers who haven’t played a 2D title in years and don’t have the necessary Mega Man timing memorized, this game is very difficult. That’s right, I’ve admitted that I find this game incredibly hard, but I think most gamers who are unfamiliar with the series will also.
While the timing takes some time to master, the controls are highly responsive. This is a good thing, but in all reality should be expected. A 2D game with very limited diagonal movements and no diagonal fire should control well due to the simplicity of movements.
The graphics and sound are great. Some of the cutscenes involve a high-quality Japanese anime, which does a very good job of explaining the story. The original campaign is fairly short, but multiple playable characters keep gameplay fresh even after finishing the title.
I am not enjoying this title nearly as much as many of the reviewers on the forum. Still, I can admit that this is a quality title with high production values. The initial price point of $29.99 for a new copy is also a plus. The game comes with a demo for Mega Man Powered Up, which I must say looks much more interesting to me than this title.
This game is a must have for fans of the series. It is definitely worth a rental to gamers who have never experienced a Mega Man title or haven’t revisited the series in quite a long time. Any Gamer who enjoys the Viewtiful Joe titles or other 2D adventures should definitely check out this title.
