User Rating: 9.3 | Irregular Hunter X PSP
Capcom's very own sidescrolling shooting game series, Mega Man, has sold many copies of the different games in its history. Throughout the growth of the series, Mega Man X was introduced in 1993. Many enjoyed what this series has become and the game had been put out to sell successfully. It worked. Mega Man X improved after 13 years and made it to the PSP with new features that add replay value.

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is an amazing sidescroller. This game blends in the genres of sidescroller shooter and sidescroller platformer. As a tribute to its original series, an upgraded PSP title makes this game look solid and enjoyable.

The storyline in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X follows up to that of the original SNES version, as well as new additions. The year is 20XX, and robots have been set out to live peacefully with humans. These robots are called Reploids. After the findings of X, these Reploids began production. However, the only one that can live like the humans due to worrying potential is X himself.

This potential is seeked out by Commander Sigma, who helped in protection of the city in which this game takes place. Turning Maverick means rebelling against the Reploids, and Sigma has fallen to this side of rebels. He has taken many other Reploids to the Maverick side. X and Zero, a helpful Reploid by his side, take on the offer to stop these Mavericks from changing the world.

As an addition to the story, X and Sigma aren't the only ones after world protection and conquer. Vile, X's well known enemy, steps into the business. In Maverick Hunter X, Vile becomes a playable character to fulfill his own path to that which he seeks in changing the world.

The gameplay is amazing. Jumping from one platform to the next while keeping cover of enemies with strong wills to attack challenge you in this game's detailed levels. If you thought shooting enemies was the plain concept, things tend to get more interesting with upgraded weaponry. Upgrades in this game also help with body armor as the cloud-bearded Dr. Thomas Light assists you in acquiring body parts to strengthen yourself.

The graphics in this game enhance the SNES's version with now 3D models of the enemies, characters, stages, and obstacles. The cell shaded graphics give the game an anime feel to the appearance. As well as anime looks consist in this game, anime cutscenes, artwork, and movies make the anime subject in the game really stand out.

The music in this game may be remixes of the older version, but to hear official remixes are absolutely excellent. These songs fit into the stages and events and are excellently instrumented. New tracks are available for stages when playing as Vile too, therefore adding more music to the Mega Man X game. The now voiceacted scenes in this game are excellent as well. Voices are great choices for each character, and the given emotion in each voice is excellent quality.

Although a remake seems like a waste of time, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X changes that. If you are new to the series, this game is highly appealing and can give you a first experience feel of the Mega Man X games. If you are an old fan, the given chance to enjoy a new version of an old classic is highly worth it. All in all, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a solid PSP title that is definately worth playing.
