Capcom Reactivates the X-Factor
User Rating: 7.8 | Mega Man X Collection GC
Now, I have said that Mega Man was one of the best NES robot games I have played. Mega Man X however, is the best SNES robot title I have come across. Where the original Mega Man series had style, action, challenges, along with some nice cartoon aspects, Mega Man X is a much more mature robot title, at least for its time. I was so glad to find that Capcom decided to launch the first 6 games of the X series as quite simply; the rest just did not play well for me at all. I know I am also not the only one with that opinion. I will be honest, X6 was not my most favorite either, however it still is fun to play. I love this collection a lot more then the Mega Man Anniversary Collection that came out not too long ago. For one, the controls are much easier to use and there is no "Navi" system that guides you through the game. I love the fact that there are three save spots on each of the six games. As well as you can play X2 or X3 while still playing X1. All and all this game is a very good tribute to the classic Mega Man X series.
There are however, as there are to every game, some draw backs. Through X5 and X6, I managed to pick out seven and eight grammatical errors. Now that is not bad and by no means stops someone from playing the game, however it can slow the enjoyment down when you have to read some of the text over four times to get it.
Another draw back was the little racing game that comes as an un-lockable game. I can see why it was not released in the US, simply just was not worth unlocking in my opinion. The music just did not fit the rest of the games, and neither did the tone. For example, you go from saving the world, blasting up enemies, and going through tragedy and chaos in X1-X6. Then you go into a fun little game with cute racers and cool little races?! I don't know if I am the only one, I just did not get it at all. But for the record, I will admit it was a nice diversion, but that’s all.
All together, this game is one of the better "collection" tittles I have come across and I am proud to add it to my collection.
