Everyone grumbled when they heard another MegaMan game was coming, and I curse all of you who did. Thsi is truly the return of MegaMan X back to his old self, in a new slick, 3D platformer that plays exactly like his 2D counterparts of the past. As far as story goes, it is quite good, as X and his allies Zero and Axl are investigating the Jakob Project, an orbital elevator that can bring people and reploids to the moon. The problem is, the director of the project, Lumine, is missing and MegaMan X's arch nemesis, Sigma, is the prime suspect, as many of his clones were at the scene of the kidnapping. Now, X and the gang set out on another great adventure. Let me say that the difficulty has spiked since X7, as X7 was found to be a bit simplistic with its level designs. X8 has many nooks and crannies for hiding rare items, including metals, which are usedto build items like health increases, weapon energy increases, spike barriers, new weapons for Zero, and much, much more. The new metal system, although a bit overwhelming at first, adds great depth to customizing your characters the way you want. And yes, tag teaming is back with an all new tag attck as well. Just simply fill up a meter, pres R2 and have the sphere around your character collide with an enemy, and your current character and his tag partner will enter a Matrix-like world to use a special attack that causes devastating damage on enemies (especially bosses). While were on bosses, they can be pretty tough, but the same "each one has a weakness" applies just like the old X games, which rocks. Plus, with tons of variety and depth in a classic series like the X series, and you have one of the finest games of 2004, in my opinion. In other words, the Gamespot review is totally wrong and the guy reviewing it never played an X before. Trust me, this game ROCKS.
