The game that started the Blue Bomber's claim to fame.

Who knew back in 1987 that the blue bomber would end up as popular as he is today? It is a good thing this game was made, as it became the classic of the series that it is. The premise of Mega Man is simple. A good scientist, Dr. Wright, creates a good robot, Mega Man. Dr. Wily, an evil scientist, creates bad robots to take Mega Man down. When Mega Man defeats one of Wily’s robots, he gains their power to use against the other robots. Sounds fun? Mega Man doesn’t have very many moves at his disposal. The Blue Bomber at his bare minimum. No slide, no charge for his Mega Buster, nothing. All he can do is shoot and jump, nothing more. Of course, for those that beat the game all those years ago, they didn’t need to slide or use Rush. When I played it though, all those years ago, I found this to be one of the hardest games I had played to date. Today, I still find the game challenging, but I’ve become a better gamer and know what to expect from it. There are six bosses in this game, each having a weakness to a certain weapon, even to the Mega Buster. The task is to find the weapon that will kill the boss the fastest, and usually it was pretty easy to figure out (Ice Beam beats Fireman.) It was odd that certain weapons didn’t work vice versa (Fire Beam doesn’t hurt Ice Man, but the Electric Beam hurts him more?) It has been the staple for Mega Man games that one beam would do a lot of damage to a boss, and the pattern would continue for the rest. The graphics of this classic look good for the NES, considering the limitations those many years ago. Mega Man and the bosses all look great. The animations were well done. The stages and the backgrounds looked a little bland, but that’s taking into account the limitations. I love the music for Mega Man, as well as every other Mega Man game that came after. One of the best things about this game. You can really get into every stage, even as simple as the music is. If you have an NES but have never played this game, go out and find this game! Buy it! The challenge is just right, great characters and story, and you’ll find this game a joy to play.
