User Rating: 9.9 | Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction PS2
You turn the corner of a barrack, M4 Carbine in hand. You spot an NK coming your way. Should you leg it to the hills and snipe him? Perhaps. Should I burst out and reign bloody murder upon all? Maybe. Or should I call in my gunship support to fire 105mm howitzers upon him and the rest of them? If I like. Mercenaries offers it all. Set in North Korea, you start by picking a character, each with their own traits and nationalities. We have Christopher Jacobs, the American with a lot of kevlar on him, great for newbies. Matthias Nilson, Swedish. An expert with explosives. Or Jennifer Mui, Chinese/British. Stealth is her game. With an almost fully detructable environment Mercs offers hours of gameplay. There is a wide selection of weaponry, from the US and SK Carbine, to the Russian Shotgun. The vehicles are detailed and guaranteed to make you enjoy firing a shell into the enemies face. However the point of the missions is to work for different factions, The Allies, South Koreans, Chinese and Russian Mafia and you can choose to ally yourself with each faction should you want to. Annoy them to much however and they shoot at you when they see you, unless you are disguised in one of their vehicles. You go through North and South Korea looking for a Deck of 52. These are guys who are most wanted captured or dead by the American Government and you must play through missions to gather intel on their hidey-holes. Soon you will find yourself immersed in gameplay until you capture the main baddie, General Song, the Ace of Spades and the campaign is over. If you want you can flush out resistance and murder them or have plain fun roaming the 2 areas. So all in all Mercs is a great game worthy of a Superb Rating
