I have no choice but to give Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge a Blastin two-thumbs up.
My Thoughts: Even compared to recent side-scrolling 1st-person shooters, Metal Combat would still be considered a good rental. The games storyline takes off shortly after the Battle Clash events and ST fights on Earth and the moon. This time around, though, the game is much longer do to the fact that there are much more ST's then last time around. Anubis is who you are after at first, but then as you defeat him you will find out many other twists to the story that makes the game go on and on, but thats not exactly a bad thing unless you don't like blowing up ST's with bombs and charged up triple powered laser blasts. One of the most upgraded factors to this game is your ST itself. Now you can charge your standard blaster X3 and launch out a tripple powered blast that abviously does 3 times as much damage as you've ever been able to do with it before. There are also many new power ups that you can gain by beating some enemy ST's. You can only hold 3 power ups, but you can switch between them before the fight begins. The game play is identical to Battle Clash's where you still only have one on one fights and only one round to battle. Although your only the gunner, you'll have fun blasting without having to worry about trying to keep up with your opponents sometimes extreme speed, don't worry about that because your teamate, Mike, is one hell of a pilot! Another slight improvement are the graphics. Everything in this game continues to look smooth and play smooth at the same time. Music is also another high point to Metal Combat. Every tune matches each situation and ST battle nearly perfectly and rapid shots and charged shots sound like they should, but then again, everything sounds great in this game. When it comes to difficulty, Metal Combat is a challenge, and could be even worse if your using your actual Super Scope(Belieave me, I could imagine, I've held those huge things and know just how much of a pain in the ass they can be no matter what kind of game you play) because the battles are fast passed and near the end things could get Near Impossible if your not sure where your enemies weak spots are. If you know all the weak spots and don't have a problem hitting them, then the game will be quite simple, but for first timers, this game will challenge them till the end. Hoping that I've touched all of Metal Combats sweet spots in my review, I will now mention what I think are the sour spots. For one, you play as nothing more then Mikes little puppet, which sometimes makes people like ME very upset after awhile. Your character is called "partner" for the entire game, unless you use the code to change it into your own six letter name, which lets me belieave that Nintendo only truely cared about Mike and not your nameless character. Personally, when I play a game, I have to be the center of attention or I get bored too easily. I wish they would at leaste allow your character and Mike to swap chit chat, but instead Mike does enough chit chat for the both of you. With Mikes attitude you would be thinking he would want to be the gunner considering his father was killed to the hands of the people you must shoot down, but I guess he'd rather see you, a nobody gunner with no known past, get revenge for him. Then again, thank god he's not much of a gunner because I wouldn't of had too much fun piloting some guy nammed Mike while trying to get him on target. Another downside is variety this game has to offer. With only one true mode, the game will get boring after the second, if not first, time around. Other then that, Metal Combat is the best Super Scope game that was released for the SNES. I have no choice but to give Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge a Blastin two-thumbs up.
