Maybe not for everyone, but none the less it is still a good game.
In MGA2 you play as Snake (surprise surprise), who has just landed back in America, just to be confronted and captured by the FBI. The FBI needs Snake's help and from there trouble ensues.
The game teaches you the basics and then lets you loose. And for me, it was a very strange experience to say the least.
-Gameplay
Your cards are your life and blood, and getting the right card at the right time, when you are in the right position is the formula for success in this game. However this formula can also make this game frustrating and tedious.
The problem is, if you need a specific card now, well you can't have it now but instead have to wait 0-20 turns to get that card. So the perfect situation may present itself except you don't have the card, and I guess that is bad luck, but it can be very annoying. So you end up discarding cards every turn, just waiting till you can do something useful.
On a brighter note, the game does flow very well, and is satisfying when your not waiting for cards.
-Graphics
The cell shading works out quite well, although some very minor graphical hiccups appear here and there. However when there are a lot of explosions the frame rate suffers, but it doesn't matter because the game is turn based.
When looking at the game in 3d, using the TOBIDAC!D glasses, its just a cool thing but doesn't really provide an advantage of any sort. The glasses magnify the screen, which results in a grainy picture. But you can still view the game in 3d without glasses if you know the magic eye trick, and as far as Im concerned that works alot better.
-Sound
The techno style music in MGA2 is quite good. It really sets the pace when you are in trouble and gives you a feeling for the level.
It would have been nice if you could have accessed the soundtrack, but un-fortunately that is non-existent.
No voice overs except for grunts. This causes cutscenes or maybe more like slide shows in the game to be relatively boring, and drawn out.
Reading text doesn't always give you the best idea of what a character is like, except for maybe the hacker that you meet.
-Value
For a Metal Gear, card based game noob I managed to complete this game in 20 hours on normal. Whats left when you finish?
Well there is arena mode, where you battle famous MGS characters, and there is also the link battle mode, which would be ad-hoc multiplayer.
There is also a good amount of incentive to play the game over. That incentive being the Solid eye theater which hosts 3d versions of the cutscenes from MGS3, the MGS4 trailer, and some Japanese girls in bikinis posing and doing some other strange things.
There are also over 500 cards in the game, and I had only un-locked 40 or so on my first completion of the game.
If you like card based games, then this game is worth a shot.
If you don't, well try to stay open minded, and give the game time. But this game might just be to long winded for some people.
