The Motherload of all Games!
PROS:
The game had one of the best stories i've ever seen in a videogame. So long and confusing is exactly what i like. They put so much depth to the story, creating so much thoughts and arguements. The boss battles are the best parts of the gameplay part. All of them require strategy to beat, not like the lame games nowadays. You get over a bajillion different weapons and equipment. The game totally delivers what it set out to deliver. Unlike the first Metal Gear Solid game, in this one, throughout more than 2/3 of the game, you play as a different character whose name is Raiden. You are sent on a mission to investigate the Big Shell Facility and find out that some terrorists have the president and lots of other people as hostages. Now, i'm not going to go into depth about the story, but that's pretty much the basic idea you need to have when going into this game and that basic idea expands into a huge complex story. So be ready for those 30+ minute cutscenes. I enjoyed and i have no problem watching long cutscenes in a videogame, in fact that's what i'm looking for everytime i play a videogame. The game took me about 12 hours to beat and it was enough time for me. I want to go dwell on another game now. Most of the characters also have a great depth of personality to them too. The game has lots of plot twists and points so it's going to be an intense ride. I'm going through the Metal Gear Solid games so that when i get a ps3 in a week or so, i want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 which is the motherload of all games (how many times have i said motherload in this review already?) Anywho, at the beginning of the game, you get to play Solid Snake too but for like two levels then throughout the rest of the game you play as Raiden. Some say this one is the best out of the other Metal Gear Solid games. I don't know what to think yet until i play the rest. Anyways, the game delivers on its story, now...
CONS:
When i said it has 30+ cutscenes, i was impressed, but some of them just carry out and make it seem like they're just trying to make the cutscenes that long not cuz they're filling them up with story. The characters start saying stupid things and you just want to carry out with the gameplay but they just keep on talking about pointless things throughout the codec or whatever and it makes you mad, because they just try to extend the cutscenes to make it pointless at times. Also, the gameplay can get pretty annoying at times. For example, i hated the swimming gameplay. It's a pain in my rear ass. The thumbstick gets you confused and you have a frickin hard time trying to turn your character around while underwater. It's stupid, because there's a later part in the game where it involves lots of swimming (No spoilers). Also, the gameplay on ground can get annoying as well. Solid Snake can get up when i am prone for no reason. Then, he just randomly jumps onto the railings when i just want to go up against the wall. I'm just trying to say that the controls make it confusing to play at times. I had no problem with the difficulty on the boss battles, then again i was on the easier difficulties (LOL), but it kind of got annoying how realistic the stealth is. You can just touch something or peek a little bit from where you are, and you can get spotted or they'll become suspicious. Of course, there aren't close to as many Cons as there are Pros, but still hopefully the later games won't have this problem. I think that's all for the cons...
OVERVIEW:
Anyways, Metal Gear Solid 2 was one of the best games i've played in a while and it makes think that i should start playing the older games cuz most of them are much better than modern games. The only problem i have with older games is that they can be much tougher than the average modern game. I liked the characters, although Raiden got on my nerves at times. But you will not want to miss this game if you haven't played it already. I went hating it at times to absoluting loving the masterpiece at the end. I don't know, i have terrible mood swings playing videogames. One minute i absolutely despise the game when the next minute i love the game. I don't know it's just me. Well, i'm off waiting for Halo: Reach to arrive and still need to play the new Spiderman game. See you next time, Gamespotters!
