A succesfull port of one of the best games ever
The story takes place 7 years after the incident in Outher Haven the government has started a serect project called Babel which intends to revive the Metal Gear program but members of the Gindran Liberation Front has hijacked the new prototype and returns to the jungle base Outher Haven now fresh out of retirement Solid Snake is sent to Outher Haven to destory the new Metal Gear and to elimnate the members of the Gindran Liberation Front (this game has nothing to do with the timeline the PSone version continued).
The GBC version has a lot in common with it´s Playstation counter-part Snake can crawl sneak hide and use a array of weapons and tools from the R5 rifle and the Nikita missile launcher to infrared goggles and cardboard boxes, there is a total of 19 items to collect.
The gameplay is as i said before like the PSone version which is a good thing since those type of games dosént have the gameplay from the console version to the GBC however of course you´ll have to live without the first-person view.
The single player has 13 levels(they all take about 12-15 hours to complete) and after they are completed you can play time attack and complete the levels with a new mission which leaves some replay value however should get tired of the single player mode there´s always 180 VR missions however if you have completed MGS Special missions (or Integral) these missions will quickly be over since it´s the same levels from those 2 games also there´s multiplayer for up to 2 players it´s a variant of capture the flag but it´s not to bad.
Visually Metal Gear Solid exudes refinement each level, though not overly colorful, is drawn in a way that emphasizes utility and clarity over extravagance the game bears a passing resemblance to the NES version but the animation and sleek lines lifts the game much higher.
The music is as good as in the PSone version however the sound effects arént good Though the game uses a variety of sounds for movement and environmental ambience, nothing stands out as particularly innovative or impressive. There's no digitized speech, there's no distinction between weapons, and the same explosion effect is reused countless time.
Also there´s not backtrack which let´s you easily overlook important items also there´s a few translation errors.
Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel (as it´s called in Japan) is a good translation of the PSone game sure there are some things that isínt as good as the PSone version but this is one of the best GBC games and if your a MGS fan you should buy this if your new buy it anyway it´s a great game.
