Kojima's Best
User Rating: 10 | Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater PS2
I think that this is the best MGS gameplay wise. In my opinion MGS has always pushed the console hard for the PS2 and this one is no exception. This game is truly one of the best games ever made. For those of you have not played an MGS game, this follows Big Boss, a soldier of the U.S. at the time. Your mission is to infiltrate the U.S.S.R. and find a scientist who is being forced to make a weapon of extraordinary power. Once you get there you will have to sneak and fight your way through the Russians. Things start to go really wrong though as you will see throughout the game. The graphics in this game are pretty top notch. The environments and buildings are all done nicely. The characters are done the best out of anything in this though. The way the faces of the characters change with each emotion is probably the best seen on consoles. The gameplay has been given some new additions such as disguising yourself in the envirnoment around you. They have also added a stamina bar for you; which represents how hungry you are, and when that happens you will have to eat, which brings up another new thing. In order to survive in a jungle enviroment you have to eat animals, plants, and some rations you find in enemy buildings. Another new aspect is the cure wounds mode in which you fix your body up when you are bitten by a spider that poisons you, a leech that sucks stamina, getting burnt, and breaking bones. Another new feature in the game is the ability to switch between a knife fight and a gun fight on the fly because this tim both are held at the same time. Furthermore they have added a suicide pill and revival thing that are fun to use in boss battles, I used it and when the boss came over to look at me I stood up and shot him. The best new thing in this game is the CQC(Close Quarters Combat) though because it allows you to hold enemies at knife-point and interrogate them. This game also does get rid of the classic radar system and the laser scope for aiming on your gun, but it makes the game only slightly harder to play, and the only reason that this was done is because they wanted you to feel the lack of technology. Out of all the boss battles I've seen, this one probably has the most unique ones. The boss battles on here are completely different from the next. I don't want to spoil the boss battles but your strategy in each one will change. Each boss is very cool looking and their voice just fits their appearance. The only really frustrating parts come near the end of the game. The final battle is the only major frustration. If you played the other MGS game don't expect all the answers. Even though this game does answer some questions about MGS2 it does not answer them all. If you have never played an MGS game before then this would be a good place to start. In my opinion this one still has story twists just not as many as in 2 but it has better gameplay than 2 which is why I like it better.
