After being drawn into MGS-2 its hype and subsequently dissapointed by what i felt was an amazing first level (the ship) followed by a linear collection of drab industrial corridors. The strength of MGS-2 was it's boss battles and the potential of it's game engine. MGS-3 is just what i hoped 2 would've been which means it's very good! The quality of all elements of the game is top notch, The story pulls you in while the lush environments are steeped in atmosphere thanks in part to great ambient sounds. The weapons are powerful and satisfying, the new gameplay elements are straight-forward and add depth, the character and art design are distinctly Metal Gear: unique and well realised, and the boss battles are as memorable as ever! The game suffers somewhat by occasionally drawn-out cutscenes (Ocelot anyone?), and the carry over of much of MGS-2's now dated control scheme. The pain of playing through these limitations is rewarded by the cool story line and enjoyable interactivity of the combat. Stealth is encouraged but balls-out action isn't as penalized this time which will please the arcade style demographic like myself. Good Game.
