The one game every ps2 owner should have.
In Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence, you play the role of an operative by the code name "Naked Snake". The setting is the height of the cold war in Soviet Russia. You are air dropped into a jungle near a military base deep in the Russian mountains and ordered to find a scientist by the name of Sokolov, a scientist who is the inventor of a giant nuclear tank dubbed "the Shagohod" and was exchanged as part of the resolution of the Cuban missile crisis back to the Soviet union after escaping to West Germany.
graphics
With an all new third-person view, Subsistence completely masters the feeling of realism. The graphics haven't changed since Snake Eater, but that is definitely not a bad thing. Expect to find the same amazing visuals that were in the game before: Immersive environments, beautiful character models, realistic weather effects and many different types of animal life. This game really shows off its luster during the cutscenes, where, although they are done in real-time, they are better than most game's cgi.
gameplay
Nothing besides the new camera angle has changed, but again, this is not a bad thing. You can equip face paints and cammo to blend into the environments, hold up enemy soldiers by sneaking up on them, climb trees, hunt animals, and scavenge for food.
sound
As with Snake Eater, the Subsistence soundtrack is the best orchestral music in any game, and with actual recordings of wildlife, you feel right back in the Motherland.
online
New for the MGS series, is an extremely innovative online mode. It puts you back in the story mode with special characters, famous environments, and various modes of play. It is good enough to buy all on its own.
overall
Snake Eater was a near-perfect game when it first came out, and Subsistence finds a way to improve with a new camera angle, the first MGS online mode, and two classic ports of original Metal Gear. All of this is only $30. You have no excuse to not get Subsistence and experience what may be the greatest ps2 game.
