User Rating: 10 | Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater PS2
I got the first Metal Gear Solid game in 2000, the 2nd in 2002, and have been waiting for this sequel for a couple of years now. Well, as everybody knows, we didn't get a sequel, but a prequel, and it is much better off that way. Taking place in 1964, you assume the role of, who else, but Snake. Only, it's not Solid Snake. It's Naked Snake aka Big Boss(sorry for the spoiler). He's the OG. You're dropped off in the jungles of Russia to retrieve a nuclear weapons scientist named Sokolov. However, things don't go according to plan, to say the least. The plot is so awesome, and so emotional, that revealing anymore would be a crime against humanity. Suffice to say that your heart will pound, your gut will wrench, and you will cry. Guarenteed. Also, the plot is much easier to understand than that of the second's. Also, you go much deeper into who the characters really are.
The gameplay is also improved. You might think that a new camoflauge system would ruin the classic gameplay, but it in fact improves upon it. Using camo is actually generally fun. And there's so many camo selections, for both face and body, that mixing and matching is enjoyable, and effective. All of the weapons are also just a "blast," to use. From the standard pistol to an AK-47, to the RPG. All are really easy to use. The new CQC(Close Quarters Combat) feature is also intuitive, but not particularly useful on common enemies.
The audio is also mesmerizing. You'll actually want to hear all that the characters say. The weapon sounds are also spot on.
This game has as much, if not more, replay value than MGS2.
Whether series or action fan, you NEED to pick this up.
