The Best and the most solid (pun intended) Metal Gear yet

User Rating: 9.7 | Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater PS2
Snake Eater is the game with which Hideo Kojima san has finally redeemed himself in the eyes of diehard MGS fans like me for the debacle that was Raiden in MGS 2. MGS 3 fulfilled AND surpassed every single one of my expectations. The story: superb. The graphics: some of the best outdoor graphics I've ever seen in a PS 2. The gameplay: well, it's no Splinter Cell, but MGS never tried to be that, and it does what it does extremely well. And it was hilrarious to see how Kojima mercilessly makes fun of Raiden all throughout the game. It's as if he realised how bad an idea Raiden was, and he is now pulling out all stops to make up for that fiasco. But what really made this game? IMHO it has to be the boss fights. Snake Eater has some of the most memorable boss fights ever in a video game, matching those intense fights in MGS 1 and even surpassing them. The patient sniper battle in the jungle against The Pain, the hand to hand battle with Volgin, and of course, the final duel to the death with The Boss in a field of white orchids....with the clock running down. Every single boss battle was intense, and somehow different from the last one. The PS 2 game of 2004 is here.
