An incredible Playstation 3 title that really demonstrates the machines capability in terms of gaming and entertainment.
To save time and answer the most pressing question, yes this game is amazing and well worth the admission fee. I am attempting to offer a fairly balanced review, but I believe that every PS3 player worth their salt "must" own this game simply since it is a carefully and thoughtfully conceived masterpiece. Top down, from conceptualization to execution of ideas, MGS stands as an artful presentation of a nuanced game decidedly catered to the satisfaction of its audience.
With that said, Gamespot Reviewer Kevin VanOrd wrote that the game offers a synthesized blend of storytelling and gameplay that merge into one incredible form of entertainment. Although it's clearly obvious that a lot of thought and energy has gone to the story, I must tell you that the story itself is simply not that good! It's very long and overblown, and aside from the gravitas of Solid Snake himself, and, to be uncouth, Naomi's lovely cleavage and the tantalizing Beauty models, the story is quite useless and not compelling in the least. It's a concoction of science-fiction writing without an editor or a sense of pathos and direction that should appeal to the younger crowd but really ought to hold no weight to mature folks. If you want a good story with great twists, watch "Lost." Hideo Kojima's story will leave you feeling confused as to its worth.
In the end, though, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots is still a great game, and a year later no other game in the market for the PS3 rivals it in terms of sheer scope and depth. Possible rivals might include the latest Final Fantasy or even the upcoming Dragon Age, but in terms of being absolutely spoiled by a game, buy MGS4 now!
