Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 has been one of the best videogame purchases I've ever made.
Listed in the order of which I played them, and the order I'd suggest you play them:
--Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty--
Probably my favourite on the disc. It's story is just so phenomenal, the gameplay is a blast once you get used to it, and it's not an annoyance to get through unless you wish to test your luck on your harder difficulties. The cutscenes are long, but emotional. If you can't stand a long cutscene, these games aren't for you, but if you're looking for some cinematic action to bewilder you, check out this HD collection.
--Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater--
Snake Eater brings us back 50-ish years to follow the adventures of Naked Snake. The storyline is almost as thrilling as MGS2, but my problem with MGS3 was the less-memorable moments and boss fights, and sometimes the gameplay would drag on in sequences because it was hard to maneuver yourself through enemy-infested territory. But other than those problems, every other moment of the game is enjoyable and is definitely an essential play. The gameplay is stepped up a notch, the ending is amazingly concluded, and it's got a killer theme song.
--Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker--
Peace Walker was originally on the PSP but was now ported to the 360 and PS3, in stunning high definition, and looks generally as good as the others, but features mostly animated comic-book cinematics with full voice acting. They're surprisingly enjoyable scenes to watch as the musical score in Peace Walker is epic, and the emotion portrayed by the acting and moments in Peace Walker are some of the most memorable in the entire series. Peace Walker introduces 'Mother Base', where you can kidnap enemy soldiers from the battlefield, take them to your base and persuade them to join your team, which will help you develop weapons, and they can even get sent out on missions for you. The story and unique 'mercenary management' gameplay is the highlight of Peace Walker. The worst part about Peace Walker are the fact there are no checkpoints which you could return to if you got a game over, there's a painful button-mashing sequence towards the end of the game which I dare not spoil, and to top it off the boss battles may be agitating, but in the end it was a fantastic experience. Once you beat the game you'll be given a Chapter 5 to unlock and play through, I highly recommend it even though I found it cumbersome, the second ending and plot points are amazingly important and must be seen to fully comprehend the series.
The good: (referring to the entire HD collection)
-The stories and emotion from all three games is over-the-top and probably one of the best stories ever told in videogames.
-The HD upscales from the originals are for the most part, great.
-Plenty of content to keep you going. At least 50 hours of gameplay out of all three.
-The gameplay is most of the time a blast and you'd be nowhere without your MK-22 Tranquilizer Gun.
The bad:
-The lip-sync in MGS2 and 3 is noticeably mediocre and clash with the HD upscale.
-A few glitches that may or may not have to do with porting the games to the PS3.
-Some gameplay sequences in specifically Peace Walker will drive you up the wall.
Just get this collection, get it.
