The reason I kept my psp
Graphics: The graphics for this game are damn good. It's like Snake Eater with a few rough edges - roughness expected from a portable. All characters and most backgrounds are well presented. Never a moment did I have a "what the hell am I looking at." Only flaw i noticed is that some, not all, of parts in the comic movie displays looked too cut and paste. a little bit of a blur, but not enough to ruin the experience.
Sound: As you'd come to expect from the Solid line, sound is an important part of gameplay, and we weren't cheated on the aspect. I prefer to play the game with headphones, so i don't miss anything. No music is rough or tinny, and all speech is clear and well pronounced. Voice acting is good both in movies, and in basic play.
Control: The development team did well in reworking the controls with a few less buttons than the series is used to. it may be annoying having the control camera and movement on the same side, but the camera generally locks behind you when you point your gun, so it isn't too much of an issue. Story: Story holds up well, no matter how many times they jam something new in it. Tie ins were well introduced without becoming to sloppy or questionable. The quality voice acting also holds up it's presentation.
Basic Gameplay: Now the team has introduced recruiting. It adds an interesting depth to gameplay with spy units, tech units and so on. While you can have these members in a team with snake, you can change to play as them and blend in among enemy soldiers. To keep from becoming too easy, you can not be seen by someone of a different uniform. It doesn't make too much sense, as why would someone from a different unit know you're not on their side, but you don't mind it much during play. To suit the portable lifestyle, missions can be completed in a matter of minutes. Online: Online, for me atleast, has been a bit glitchy but doesn't ruin gameplay. Battle anyone nationwide in different modes, or just with a friend in a password protected room. You lose characters in real combat, but it canbe set as a training mission if neither of you want to lose them. You gain whoever you kill in the real combat.
Overall: It came out as a great game that I'm glad I kept my psp to play. Sometimes it feels that the real game was made around the multiplayer campaign, but in all honesty, I really would have paid even for the online alone.
