The epic-ness of the MGS series finally comes to the PSP... (without any annoying cards).

User Rating: 9.2 | Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops PSP
I had been putting off buying this for quite a while because I feared the PSPs controls would ruin the MGS experience, but I recently went on a road trip, so I decided to push my fears aside and pick it up. Lets just say I'm kicking myself for not picking up this amazing game earlier.

Gameplay: Addicting. Kojima and his team have done an excellent job of making this game perfect for the PSP. The missions are relatively short (but still satisfying) so you can pick up the PSP, play for a bit, and then turn it off without missing anything. The new recruiting system is also really cool; capturing guards gets a bit tiresome after a while, but is worth the hassle. Each guard you capture has a gun or occasionally a grenade or something, and sometimes they have special abilities (like they can run faster than normal, or they are an expert on technology and will develop new equipment for your expanding army). As for the controls, they are a bit complex, but you'll get the hang of it.

Graphics: Surprisingly good. I was really impressed with the graphics; they are pretty much on par with MGS2's graphics. For the cutscenes, instead of the normal ones, they used artwork from Ashley Wood. A lot of people didn't really like this, but I thought it was actually pretty cool.

Sound: Decent. Don't get me wrong, most of the game's sound effects are really good, but it all sounds... flat on the PSP. As for the music, I thought it was great; the mix of some techno with classical works really well.

So, there you have it. If you are a MGS fan (even if you aren't), you will not be disappointed by Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
