An update of a truly great game. Classic is the correct term, and it has just been made better!
Some of you might say ‘How can it be improved, it’s already great!’ Well I’ll say it has, but only slightly. Since MGS2, the first person perspective made the game a lot more fun (Shooting enemies in the head and watching them spasm on the floor). And the dragging away of the body too. Also, hiding in lockers and hanging from ledges etc. Before MGS: TS came out I sat there thinking, ‘What if you could do all of this in the original, THEN it would be perfect’ and now they have. And I’ll say it has made the whole experience even more enjoyable, and the game has been taken to whole new levels.
The plot is the same, the enemies are the same, and cameras are in the same places. Nothing major has changed. Just that all you could do in MGS2, you can do in the original. But I will say now that the Psycho Mantis battle has been made a lot harder, instead of being able to fight him without him reading your every move by using the next controller, you have got to be patient and plan carefully when you will attack (Though there is a very easy way to beat him I’m not going to mention it here).
The only downside for me is the dialogue. Instead of Konomi keeping the same dialogue by using the same as the original, they have gotten all the voice actors back to re record the lines. But they haven’t put their heart into the voices as before. Meryl is very plain, all the actor did was read the lines; no real emotion has been put into her this time. Truth being that the only voice actor to put any effort in is David (Snake).
It will take some getting used to the controls as it is a GameCube controller, not a PS2, but nothing too challenging. So all I can really say is give it a try, cause personally, it is just as good as before, if not better.
