Magnificent Post-Apocalyptic Setting With an Entertaining & Challenging Quest

I'm not a fan of linear/rail games of any kind, much less FPS. I exclusively prefer open-world "do-what-you-like-when-you-like" games. However, even thought this game is a linear, chapter-based game, it works really well.

I do love the post-apocalyptic backdrop and this game does it really well; better than anyone else in certain ways. Don't get me wrong, this game isn't Fallout 3, but it's not trying to be.

Missions are fun and the locations & scenery are captivating. I mean who wouldn't want to explore an abandoned Soviet ballistic-missile command & launch center decades after society has collapsed? The story is linear but you have plenty of options when completing chapters/challenges.

FPS mechanics are solid and familiar. Nothing ground-breaking about combat but nothing that annoys the player either. Just good, clean, & solid gameplay.

I've completed this game and had a lot of fun doing it. It was challenging on the "Normal" difficulty but there are higher levels of difficulty for the "Dark Souls" gamers.

This game is 3 years old so it's a decent bargain on Steam for $14.99. And it's a great warm-up for the sequel Metro: Last Light due out in May.
