Play it once, it'll do

User Rating: 7.5 | Metro 2033 X360
The main strength of this game is the story, which i'll not spoil here.

Metro 2033 has solid game mechanics and the addition of some atmospheric shakes in camera angle make the game enjoyable, for the most part.

The premise of this post-apocalyptic fps is an obvious one, survive and try and stop everyone else being killed. The is primarily set underground with a chilling environment which, although not akin to the likes of Doom 3, will keep you on edge. A bit of a let down is the rough visuals, the shading is great but the levels on the surface in particular are crude at best.

The array of weapons are obvious but satisfying and with weapon upgrades to work towards they match the level of your enemies make the game generally well balanced.

For me the major let down is a level later in the game where you come across an enemy called an 'amoeba', aka brains in translucent green spheres. They are essentially just rolling mines and make for one of the most frustrating and tedious battles in the game, wherein you protect a team mate who walks far far far too slowly for a man who's life is in danger!

The achievements are standard stuff but i'm satisfied in having around 400/1000 knowing that I don't have to play this game through again.

The story is amazing (ruined if you've already read the novel). The atmos is amazing. The gameplay is solid. The graphics are shoddy and the game glitchy. So, play it through once for the story, then trade it in asap
