Unusual for Metroid, but undeniably fun!
After getting over the difference in the types of game types, i started to warm up to the game. The controls are pretty solid for a Game Boy game, and SOME of the music is pretty cool (final area in particular). Though, allot of the music in this game sucks.... if you can consider some of it music... sounds more like cheep bleeps and boops arranged in some attempt to make an alien sounding song.
This game was actually pretty innovative for the Metroid series. Its the first Metroid to really show the difference between the Power Suit and the Varia Suit. Its the first Metroid with Spider Ball. And most importantly, its the first Metroid to use the Space Jump as one of the power ups. Oh, and its also the first Metroid to have a Plasma gun. This is also where they came up with all of the Metroid mutations, all the way up to the queen Metroid.
Overall, once getting warmed up to the game, I found it to be rather enjoyable, and in some cases, rather difficult. Each Metroid presents a different challenge, and there are times where you will be holding on to one energy tank, waiting for the next power station. This is a great game, and definitely one of the best games on the Game Boy. Oh, and this game was designed to be played on the Super Game Boy if you ever get one ^_~
