Review for Metroid other M 8.0/10 Warning Some spoilers
The Good: Solid non-waggle controls, all the upgrades are fun to use, and the boss fights are tough but far from unfair (plus some bosses have awesome finishing moves), Samus acts more like a Ninja than a tank, and her athleticism is on full display here, from wall-jumping to vaulting, to somersaulting, samus can
The Bad: when you have to move the remote...it's never pretty (aiming missiles or regenerating health both score low points) also to restore lost health you either have to go to a save point (which is fine actually) or when you are in a critical stance hold your wii remote vertically and hold A for about five seconds...the problem with this method is that if you don't hold it vertically like they ask you will turn into your morph ball, this usually happens during boss fights when they like to lob attacks every three seconds. Some might find the non boss combat too easy because of the Autolock feature, the "walk sequences" make no sense, becauseā¦couldn't you catch the person if you ran full speed vaulting over crates or what have you? *SPOILER* And one particular part will have you throwing your controller down in frustrationā¦because of the fact that you need to pause the game and then access your status screen in order to activate your last ability, you would normally die again and again in frustration and hopelessness until you hit the pause menu (in which most people would have given up)*END SPOILER*, The Progression seems a tad linear and I felt dissuaded to explore, while in the other games, they encouraged backtracking to find everything
Graphics Technical 9/10 (for a Wii game)
The Good: Extremely high quality Cut scenes despite being pre-rendered, Models are nicely done, and effects pop out
The Bad: Some textures resolutions are low
Graphics artistic 8/10
The Good: The space Station is a fantastic environment, Holographic-Environments Get high Marks
The Bad: a tad bland at times (sector 3 lava areas is the low mark)
Story 7/10
The Good: Surprisingly good story...although this is no Bioware game...It does its job and offers a nice amount of crazy twists, even if a vast majority of them are at the end
The Bad: Samus....oh Team ninja WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!? They turned Samus from a silent and efficient warrior-spartan (which made her awesome) to a boring brat who likes to make bad logical conclusions, go against the grain when it least makes sense (except to turn her suit off or on when Daddy Malkovich asks...) and ask questions that have just been answered, also *SPOILER-ish* suffers from Post-traumatic stress disorder over a boss she killed TWO times in the past without blinking.
Sound 8/10
The Good: Its good enough really...nothing actually stood out
Bad: Whoever acted Samus should be fired, her voice work is boring to the point that she would make a better hypnotist than voice actor
Other Notes: It is short for a Metroid game
Summary 8.0/10
While Other M is flawed due to some questionable design decisions (and dooming it as "Worst Metroid Game Ever") , you should not write it off, it is still a fun game
