Echoes is everything the first was...and just a little more.

It was hard living up to the original Metroid Prime, but Retro Studios made Echoes everything the first was and more. You start out, as per the Metroid tradition, with a quick backstory about whats going on this time around. After your quick briefing, you crash-land on the planet Aether to begin your adventure. And thats all I'll reveal about the story. Echoes plays very similarly to the first. Thats great if you loved the first, as many do, but disappointing if you were hoping for something different. The control scheme remains the same. You can lock on, strafe, and manually aim the same way you did two years ago. Retro threw in some curves this time, though. Enemies that can break your lock and still damage you are plenty, making this a lot more than just a lock-and-shoot first person adventure. The bosses in the game are also bigger, better, and more challenging. Even the mini-bosses will give you a run for your money and illicit more than a few controller tossings. As far as the sound goes, its atmospheric and subtle, but some tracks can get a bit repetitive. Echoes is a great game and every bit worthy of the Metroid name. If you were a fan of the original, definitely pick this up. You won't be disappointed.
