This game is what a Gamecube game should be like
User Rating: 9.1 | Metroid Prime GC
Metroid Prime is a FPS developed by then-rookie gaming company Retro Studios. The game is based off of the old Metroid games on the Nintendo, SNES, and Gameboy. The story starts off like the movie Alien, a space station orbiting a planet called Tallon IV sends out a distress call. The distress call is received by Samus Aran, the series' main character. You arrive at the space station, and things start to get bad from there. While you are there, you're suit is basically trashed, all the things that made your suit upgrades are taken away from you. The space station is destroyed and you are forced to land on Tallon IV, and things pick up from there. The controls is this game are a "love it or hate it" configuration, it's a little confusing at first but as you play the game, you'll get used to them. The lock-on system is your best friend with a controller configuration like this. Some will cast aside thoughts of the controls, others may put down the controller in frustration. The sound.....while there is no actual voice acting in this game, it doesn't really need it. The musical scores in this game are cinamatic and give you the goosebumps, it makes you swoon. The music also changes depending on what situation you are in. The sounds of monsters and the ambiance make the experience ever more realistic. The graphics and visuals in this game are something you have to give a hand to Retro Studios. The details to the enviornment, creatures, and monsters are something that makes this game more appealing to me. Although there were a couple of times were there was a collision problem and the walls had these "lines" that made it look like it was built over this invisible wall The gameplay is another thing I like about this game. As you progress through the game, you can upgrade your suit, get different kinds of blaster cannons, collect suit and weapon upgrades. And you have different visors too. You can use a scanner to scan the enviornment and monsters which are stored in a memory bank. The information of things that you can gather are huge and something that Retro does a good job of. You can also use the infared visor to see in the dark. While the upgrades are fun and all, looking for them gets tedious, and sometimes requires back-tracking and it gets repetitive at times. It's also very easy to get lost since the enviornments are so huge, but that's what you have a map for. The boss fights are something else well executed and are some of the best boss fights I've ever seen. The game takes about 15-20 hours to beat if you don't collect all the upgrades and do the couple side quests that are in it. If you're a long time fan of the Metroid Series, a fan of FPS and looking for something different, then this is the game for you
