A master adventurer.

User Rating: 9.7 | Metroid Prime GC
This is a simply falwless game. Straight from the off you are treated to enviorments, gameplay and moments that will define video games as we know them for years to come. What to any lesser game would constitute a defining level or a major setpiece, Metroid Prime seems happy to fire at you constantly like so many missiles from an arm cannon. A huge orbiting spaceship with meteorites floating serenly over head, a mysterious science lab, a set piece boss battle, and an exciting Halo-rivaling ship escape.... and that's all within the first half hour of play. Then you step out onto the planet surface, look up, see the rain dripping off your visor and you know that you're in for an absolute treat of a game. And it doesn't stop there, oh my no. From the epic ruined city scapes to the genuinly stunning northern snow drifts, down to the lave filled underworld and back to the same spaceship (now crash landed and underwater) the enviorments are universally gorgeous, each populated with it's own set of beautiully realised creatures, enemies and towering bosses. While there some back tracking to be had, with the stunning enviorments it never, ever feels like any kind of chore. All the technicalities work great too. The lock on and fire system and generous jumping systems remove all the hard work from exploration, leaving you free to actually figure out how to defeat the latest monstrosity you've discovered. The visor scan system is also inspired providing clues, background information, game lore and tactical info. the graphics and sound are also and absolute wonder, pushing the GC and sucking everything it can to fully immerse you in the whole experience. The ambient, spcial music in particulary is among the best in any video game to date.

It's not an easy game mind and it's a very long one. You most certainly can be assured you will recieve you full moneys worth, whatever you paid for it. Most players should be able to struggle through it just fine however, and every bit of it is well worth it. The tricky puzzles and tough enemies may annoy some but for just a little perciverence you will be massively rewarded.

All in all this is an absolute masterpiece and the greatest jump for any game series from 2D to 3D since Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time. One of the greatest games you will ever play, absolutely no argument.
