Simply on of the greatest and most amazing adventure games to surface for a long time, and it deserves more attention.
Now don't let all that talk above scare you away. Yes, this game was not desisgned for little kids, but for smart grownup players from the origional. I have to admit I'm only 16 and never really got a chance to grow up with the NES or SNES. But this game will leave some fans hating it for being too unlike the origional and some fans loving the new atmospheric world that this amazing game creates.
The first thing I will go on and on about are the graphics and effects. Retro Studios has gone to great length to create one of the best remakes of a game even with all of the new technology that has been a part of gaming since the last Metroid. The newest and strangest thing about Prime is the fact that it is a FPS (First Person Shooter) in the form of an action game, going into third person perspective for the morphball, and cinamatic cutscenes. This adds much needed emotions to the player as they feel they are the person in the Fusion suit. The one being swung at by space pirates. Even the guts and blood of small critters sometimes finds itself on the visor, and smoke, steam and heat all show and add great effect to the game. Explosions look great and the animations are some of the smoothest I've ever experienced.
Now to playability. The creatures are varied, and have dictinct sounds about them. Also, there are over 50 critters and bosses to blast and find stratagies for and you can even log each and every one in you own personal "Log Book" that is stored on your heads up menu after you scan then with your scanning visor. This adds great accomplishment for gamers that like to collect things. Each creature also has their own strategy working against them, and the AI into the enemies are great. The sounds are to be best described as godlike and only Halo could surpass them. Ambient noises really put the player into the game and the music is perfectly toned. Some strange techno and rock music accompany the battles and exploring.
The Gameplay consists of walking around, platforming to certain areas, and all the while shooting baddies and solving some really cool puzzles. Much needed is a better note section so that the player knows what to do after coming back after a long break. Anyway, as most adventure games go, the areas are huge and dense, boasting hungreds of creatures but also confusing the players as what to do.
The bosses are fun, the levels are just too gorgeous and well designed to go with the things you can do, and the action and difficulty are just perfect. This game is for advanced gamers that don't mind spending some time on a long action titlle for a great price.
