With no doubt, a gamer's utopia

This is really my number one game in my collection of games. This game is just beautiful and an utter masterpiece in every way you can think of. It is one hell of a game that should not be missed at all. It's also the first Metroid game in full 3D! Definitely the best one yet! I got into the game the second I put the disc into my Gamecube and started playing. Metroid Prime was actually in first-person mode! The game has a great story that isn't realy told, you can find it out by scanning and gathering data with the scanning addition to the series. Besides shooting, you also solve many puzzles throughout the game and they are extremely inventive. Sometimes you may need to switch your brain to full power to solve some puzzles. Some are easy and some are challenging but definitely not impossible. The gameplay is open ended, and that is amazing. It is a huge world, and to help you navigate, there is a 3D map to help you out. The places in the game are: Tallon Overworld, Chozo Ruins, Magmoor Caverns, Phendrana Drifts, Phazon mines, and the Impact Crater which you gain access to at the end of the game by collecting all of the 12 Chozo Artifacts. If you get confused on where to go next after doing something major such as getting a new item or defeating a boss, you'll soon get a hint on your map. The boss fights are amazingly fun and creative and the last few were quite challenging. The controls are actually pretty easy. You use the left analog stick to move and to look around because you change your beams with the C-Stick. You have 5 beams: Power Beam, Wave Beam, Ice Beam, Plasma Beam and the Phazon Beam. 4 of these beams have an awesome powerful attack that use up some of your missiles. The Power Beam has the Super Missle attack, the Wave beam has a holdable attack called the Wavebuster, the Ice Beam has the Ice Spreader, and the Plasma Beam has the Flamethrower. The Phazon Beam is only powered by Phazon. You also have 4 different visors: The Combat Visor, Scan Visor, Thermal Visor, and X-ray visor. The Combat Visor is just the normal view, the Scan Visor is used to gather information and is also used to activate things such as door controls, the Thermal Visor is used to see in the dark and shows Wave Beam targets such as Power Conduits, and the X-ray visor is used to see invisible things. You can also go into Morph Ball mode for going into small areas such as tight tunnels. The Morph Ball can also drop Bombs and Power Bombs and it can also climb up and down magnetic rail systems when it is the Spider Ball. Graphically, Metroid Prime is absolutely beyond belief. Retro Studios nailed that 2D to 3D translation right on the head! The environments look amazingly realistic. I actually feel that I can put my hand into the TV and touch the places in the game! The environments really project life! The cinematics look absolutely fantastic. The enemies are very detailed and animate superbly! The physics are great too, when you kill a Space Pirate on an inclined surface, his body goes down the surface realistically. The rain effects in Tallon Overworld are absolutely brilliant! You can see real looking water on your visor, and there are vapor effects on your visor too when you pass by steaming broken pipes! Chozo Ruins looks the most real in all of the game. Every last bit of detail is there! All of the game looks amazing. All of this detail runs at a smooth 60 frames per second framerate! Awesome, simply awesome!

The game sounds brilliant!!! The enemies sound amazing! The music fits each area perfectly. Tallon Overwold's music is simply beyond belief and the same goes for every area! Magmoor Caverns' music blends in nicely with all that lava and machinery, Phendrana's music theme fits the atmosphere perfectly, etc... I did not get bored one moment playing this game. It was a joyride the entire time. I even enjoyed walking around those beautiful areas throughout. I just beat this game, and I must say that it definitely lives up to the hype and reputation it is getting. I actually feel like playing it again. To sum it all up, Metroid Prime is a game that can be called nothing other than flawless, and I think anybody will enjoy it. Have fun!
